As November comes to an end, Movember’s reminder to keep men’s mental health front of mind remains just as important. Many men find it easier to talk when conversations unfold naturally — during shared activities or in familiar community spaces. These informal moments can make opening up feel less daunting, offering a safe first step toward building the trust needed to seek further support.
Local Groups Making a Difference
Across the UK — including here in Surrey — a range of initiatives are helping men connect, reduce isolation, and talk more openly about what they’re experiencing:
- Men’s Pitstop (Surrey) — peer-to-peer networks offering connection and support.
- Dads Matter (UK/Surrey) — supporting fathers facing parenting challenges, separation, or mental health difficulties.
- UK Men’s Sheds Association — community sheds where men work on practical projects, build friendships, and find companionship.
- Andy’s Man Club — a national peer support group built around the message: “It’s OK to talk.”
These groups often provide a first step — a space where conversations can start naturally and where men can feel understood without pressure or expectation.
How The Counselling Partnership Supports Men
For some, that early conversation in a group or community space becomes the moment they realise it might help to talk to someone professionally too.
At The Counselling Partnership, we offer affordable one-to-one counselling for adults dealing with a wide range of challenges, including depression, relationship issues, bereavement, work stress, trauma, and low self-esteem.
Over one-third of the people we support are men — a figure well above the national average. This reflects our commitment to creating a welcoming environment where men can access support without long waits or financial barriers.
Taking the First Step
If you’re reading this and recognising that things feel difficult — or if you know someone who might be struggling — you’re not alone.
Reaching out to a friend, joining a local group, or talking to a counsellor can make a meaningful difference.
We’re proud to stand alongside community initiatives that create safe spaces for men. Through connection and conversation — whether informal or professional — men can find support that fits their needs.
Together, we can help more men in our community with their mental health and well-being.
If you or someone you know could benefit from counselling, or if you’d simply like more information, please get in touch.
